Tom Gold Spring Gala Performance

Last week while I was photographing a private event Thelma went to photograph the Tom Gold Performance at the Gerald Lynch Theater. The night included the World Premiere of La Plage with music by John Zorn.
After the performance there was a dinner at Gabriel's Restaurant where guests got to rub shoulders with the dancers while enjoying great food and fun company.

Julia Loomis graces the cover of Quest Magazine March 2013

I was so excited when Daniel Capello called me to see if I wanted to photograph the fashion story for the Spring Style Issue of Quest Magazine.
I showed up 2 weeks ago at the St Regis and went over some ideas with Daniel before the fabulous Julia Loomis arrived.
She was amazing. From the first dress to the last she was full of energy and smiles even when I asked her to stand outside in the freezing rain in a little silk dress and an umbrella.

Museum of Islamic Art, Doha

This building is my inspiration, full of textures, shapes, light and shadows, beautiful artifacts and a wonderful restaurant on the top floor. Heaven on Earth. Designed by I M Pei it is worth a visit to this amazing city just to walk inside its walls.

Good Morning Doha

An Early morning visit to Souk Waqif and I had to stop and say hello to the camels.

Travels with my iPhone Bali March 2013

I am sitting in the living room of my friend Samantha Cotterell in Doha.
I have landed here for 4 days after a week in Bali.
The sun is pouring in the window.
I look around and see myself surrounded by the objects collected on her travels around the world.
There are books, beads, puppets, chests, pillows, candles, sculptures, painting, strings of beads, rugs, furniture, lamps, a carved chess set, a wooden horse.
I am not a collector of things but I am a collector of images.
While some people bring home physical souvenirs from their travels I find myself bringing home an iphone full of photos that touch the textures and feelings that I have had on my journey.
Do not be fooled, I do pick up the odd shell or pebble and I love to find the perfect wooden spoon.
My space is limited both in my always carry on luggage only and in the place I call home in NY.

The Studio Museum in Harlem Gala

Last night was The Studio Museum in Harlem Fall Gala 2012 at Cipriani Wall Street. Yes that is right! A little late because of Hurricane Sandy but when did a little rain ever get in the way of true NYers.
It was awesome.
Always the best dressed party of any season, this was no exception.
Thelma Golden looked sensational in a dress designed by her very talented husband Duro Olowu who accompanied her to the event. As always the 3 gala co-Chairs, Kathryn Chenault, Joyce K. Haupt and Carol Sutton Lewis were stunning.

The event raised over $1.600.000

Kelly and James

Kelly Irwin has an eye for detail, an adventurous spirit and is a fellow Australian. How great it was to hear her familiar accent when she called me last year to tell me she was getting married to James at Christmas in Sydney.
Would I be home visiting my family? The answer was yes!
It was obvious I would be there to photograph her wedding. What fun for me. I called my sister Vicki and asked her to be my assistant for the day. How lucky am I! Vicki is the reason I became a photographer. While I was off modeling in Europe she was busy photographing for all the magazines and every rock and roll band that came to Sydney while working for Patrick Jones Studio.
So back to Kelly and her story.
Kelly had the great luck to win a Greencard in the lottery system so she packed up her bags and moved to NY without any idea of where or how she would find a job.
It did not take long. As luck would have it she landed a job with Preston Bailey and became the Director of Client Services. I don't know how she had time to organise her own wedding but she did. Armed with many suit cases she took home an array of things to help create the perfect night.
Her Mum also got involved in more ways than one. She decided she wanted to make the cake so with just two private classes in how to make sugar roses, many late nights in the kitchen and a new oven later she created a beautiful cake that not only looked amazing it tasted wonderful.
After the ceremony Kelly and James took time to go down to the harbour with the bridal party for a quick sip of bubbly and some photos. Later after dinner everyone had fun in the photo booth.

Lesley and Robs Wedding in Town & Country Magazine

I just received the latest copy of Town & Country and am happy to see Lesley and Robert on the weddings page. It was a great wedding in Florida and I had a fun time working with the talented people from Rafanelli Events and the fabulous crew from Films by Francesco.
