Last night was the most perfect evening.
I jumped on the train with Bill Cunningham and Dan Dutcher and headed up to Kykuit, the historic Rockefeller Estate in the Pocantico Hills just an hour from Manhattan for the Tom Gold Dance performance.
The weather was amazing and so was the location. When I first arrived Tom was in the garden warming up with one of the dancers.
As we walked over to the lawn where the stage had been set we passed the Brancusi Bird in Space and at Bill's request Tom leaped into the air.
The program was made up of a combination of classic and fun dances set to the music of Faure, Satie, Poulenc and Gershwin and - in his newest creation - classic songs by Noel Coward and Ivor Novello which were sung live by vocalist Sasha Weiss while Susan Walters played the piano.
It was still light at 8pm when the performance came to an end and everyone headed up to the terrace for cocktails. The view was breath taking.
Then it was time to head over to Stone Barnes for the 5 course dinner and the chance to dine with the dancers.
Many thanks to Gillian and Sylvester Miniter who found a spot in their car and saved me from the midnight train. Also thanks to the talented PR man Dan Dutcher who helped make sure I got photos of all the right people and most of all thanks to Tom for inspiring us all to smile with his joyful dances and wonderful choreography.
